Performing – Flute

BIOGRAPHY: In early teenage Chorley days, Adriene was inspired to take up flute after hearing a charismatic family friend, flautist Margaret Ainsworth play with Lancashire Youth Orchestra in Chorley Town Hall. Adriene embarked on private flute studies with Frank Vose of Leyland and Jane Rowland of Blackburn School of Music. Wigan piano teacher Enid Belshaw encouraged Adriene to engage in Wigan Competitive Music Festival Flute Classes. Devoted parents trailed round room to room for different category classes. She gained teenage orchestral experience, on many w/e and holiday residential courses with the LSSO – Lancashire Schools Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Malcolm Doley and Chamber / Wind Quintet coaching under Roger Rostron of Doyle Carte Opera. including performances at Preston Guildhall and Lancaster University. Memorably, the conductor at the Lancaster University Residential Course, an Anthony Hopkins, entertained the students by sitting with his back to the piano playing a little Mozart.

Very memorable also was a concert tour with the LSSO to Denmark, playing in Copenhagen’s Tivoli Gardens.

At Liverpool’s Mabel Fletcher College Adriene enjoyed lessons with Patricia Morris of the Liverpool Philharmonic, who helped with great patience through her Flute Teaching Diploma.

Orchestral experience after playing with the LSSO and Chorley Orchestra was with Mabel Fletcher College Orchestra and professionally with Southport Operatic Society Orchestra. Whilst at Mabel Fletcher Adriene gave a solo recital for Liverpool Anglican Cathedral accompanied by Stephen Dinwoodie. Fun professional engagements whilst at college included playing with colleagues for a Liverpool Mediaeval Banquet, if all were somewhat cheerily red faced after sampling the mead. Fun student times; remembering Christine taking out a sitting room window to move in her grand piano, and her enormous painting of Beethoven and one the walls. Her late night pop music party, with the classical musician guests staying even later and playing Brandenberg Concertos into early hours of the morning.

After a term of entering London’s Trinity College of Music to study the Graduate Course on Joint 1st Study Flute and Piano studying flute with a lovely gentleman Lowry Sanders of the London Symphony Orchestra, Adriene switched to majoring in Piano and Singing, believing that would be most needed for her Graduate course.

After achieving Teaching Diplomas in Piano and Singing and Graduate finals, Adriene started to play the flute again, incorporating flute pieces within her mostly Singing Charity Concert Programmes including most recently, thanks to singing student Julia, solos within the entertaining concerts organised by Stephen Dart for Friends of Bury St Edmunds Cathedral Choir.

Adriene devotes most time now to performing flute with Celtic Harpist Anne Chorley. Calendar etc are to be found in http://www.angelsdelightmusic.co.uk
