Mrs and Mrs P & C G – C Eng FRAeS, ARCTS – Teacher and Engineer: Flute Lessons Testimonial: “We would like to offer the strongest possible testimonial to the personal qualities and the professional skills of Ms Adriene Ellis who, with her lovely natural approach, has achieved exceptional results in not only her teaching Catherine to play the flute with such beautiful tone and to such a high standard, but has also managed to instil in her a dedication. appreciation and enthusiasm for good music. Catherine has achieved many distinctions and performed in front of distinguished audiences with poise and confidence. We have a very high regard for Adriene’s qualities and are so very grateful for her expertise and dedication to Catherine. Her efforts have achieved wonderful results, we can not thank her enough, and we have no hesitation in recommending her very highly.”

Mr C R S – Flute, Piano, Singing Lessons and General Testimonial: “I write to confirm that I have known Adriene Ellis for some 8 years now. From enquiries I made, Adriene was recommended as a music teacher, and I would have no hesitation in making a similar recommendation myself. Quite apart from her musical ability, her enthusiasm and unfailing good humour are remarkable, and from a personal point of view, my daughter, whom Adriene taught, advised and helped, would be nowhere advanced as she is, had we gone elsewhere for tuition, Adriene has taught her flute piano and singing. As a family, we count ourselves fortunate to know her.”

Mrs L B. SC. – Flute lessons with Adriene – Testimonial: “I have found her approach and dedication to music to be of a very professional nature. Her enthusiasm exudes and inevitably passes on to her pupils; bringing life and enjoyment into the lessons she gives. Such an approach provides an atmosphere in which my children have progressed well with very satisfying results. Having heard some of her other students also give commendable performances, it is obvious her approach is equally effective with others. Ms Ellis’s musical abilities are not limited to the flute. She is able to provide adequate accompaniments to her students and her interests in singing add a further dimension to her musical talents. Her interests appear to cover a variety of styles and give further added interest to her students repertoire. In setting tasks and aims for her students she seeks a high standard – but this is no more than she imposes on herself.

The Hon Mrs A S – Flute and Singing lessons – Testimonial: “I have known Adriene Ellis for two years, giving flute lessons to my daughter and singing lessons to my niece. Adriene is a musician first and foremost with a natural gift for teaching, which she obviously loves. She is totally professional and combines a firm but gentle and encouraging insistence on the basics of improving technique, posture and general presentation with an ability to “draw out” her pupils musical qualities and individuality. As she accompanies her pupils on the piano they benefit from the “discipline” imposed on them by playing with others. In addition to the lessons. Adriene encourages her pupils to participate in music festivals and arranges concerts to give them experience and confidence in performing. Her enthusiasm and energy seem boundless and she imparts these qualities and her love of music.

Miss O S 9 years – Flute Lessons Testimonial: “I had flute lessons for 2 years. Miss Adriene has taught me about breathing, scales and arpeggios (as well as many pieces).. I look forward to learning a lot more. She is really kind and funny and in a tricky situation she always makes me giggle. I have learnt a lot and Miss Adriene’s teaching is full of encouragement and laughter. I love going to my music lesson because it is always fun too and Miss Adriene gives me exciting ways to practise at home. I was very proud to play flute in a duet with Miss Adriene playing her harp at our local Christmas village panto, after only 9 months of lessons. Miss Adriene is inspiring so I really love playing the flute with her”.

Especially for Parents of Adriene’s youngest students, here is a: Music Teaching and Character Testimonial written for a Dubai Music School by colleague and brother Gregory Ellis FRAM: “Adriene Ellis is a highly accomplished and experienced teacher of singing, flute and piano with a proven track record of success with students of all ages. As her brother, I can attest to her great compassion and dedication particularly when teaching young people, her tenacity in the face of challenges, her creativity and enthusiasm, not to mention her very high standard of skill on her three instruments. We performed together professionally on numerous occasions in the past. She would be an asset to any forward looking school of music”. Gregory Ellis FRAM (leader RTE Vanbrugh Quartet – nb. Critiques of their performing together are to be found on the Alexandra Trio page. .

STUDENT CONCERTS CRITIQUE – Bucks Examiner – Basil Ashmore: “Young Artists Show Talent – Adriene Ellis’ tenth concert at the Elgiva Hall, Chesham given by so many of her numerous pupils, that the individual items numbered no fewer than 49. Such a wealth of music made it difficult to mention more than a handful of youthful artists involved, but all, including the tiny tots, created a highly varied and very interesting programme. Adriene Ellis has once again proved that she knows how to find and to encourage local talent.”

Adriene organised Coach Trips for her students, including to visit the Royal College of Music FLUTE MASTERCLASSES with Trevor Wye, William Bennet, Robert Dick on contemporary techniques, and James Galway.

BACKGROUND: Adriene’s Flute lessons were taken with: Frank Vose (private lessons) of Leyland who introduced Adriene, as a teenage, to play in Chorley Orchestra, Jane Rowland (private) of Blackburn School of Music, Roger Rostron and Atarah Ben Tovim* Doyle Carte Opera Company and Liverpool Philharmonic players, whilst on Orchestral Courses and Concert Tours with LSSO – Lancashire Schools Symphony Orchestra under Conductor Malcolm Doley, Patricia Morris, flautist with Liverpool Philharmonic, (later piccolo player with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Royal Academy of Music Teacher) whilst at Mabel Fletcher College Liverpool, and lastly Lowry Sanders of the London Symphony Orchestra when at Trinity College of Music.

  • How amazing that after writing this biography, by chance two audience guests from France attended our Coronation Celebration Harp Flute Duo Concert at Long Melford Antiques and Interiors last week. They asked if I knew Atarah Ben Tovim! She, as my Colleague flautist Paul Bagshaw who had had private lessons with her, both passed away last year RIP. Condolences please to her husband Douglas and Paul’s family. I remember taking a party of very young flute students to Liverpool’s finest concert hall where a character dressed as the Pink Panther was prancing around to make it fun for the children. Atarah wrote a very useful book on “Choosing an instrument for your child”.
